opportunity meets the prepared people(Mary)
Opportunity is an abstract term, but it also really exists. When opportunity knocks on your door, you will lose it if you are hesitated or intend to let the opportunity find you by itself. Therefore, opportunity often meets the prepared people.
There is a chinese saying that WAIT FOR WINDFALLS. One day, a man found a dead rabbit because of crashing on a trunk suddenly, so he stayed there all the time, waiting for other dead rabbit, but nothing. Providing that he himself caught and hunted rabbits, he may have attained a lot. So don"t linger at one place and wait for another windfalls because of one windfalls. The other one story is the THREE VISITS TO THE COTTAGE. If Zhu Geliang was always staying at home to wait for the invitation of Liu Bei with nothing had done? If Jiang Ziya went fishing beside river without any preparation before he encountered empire Zhou? NO! Both of them had acquired the situation of the world and made some care-full and accurate resolutions or plans about the situation. Thereby, when opportunity came, they immediately grasped it, which contributing to their later success.

Assignment topic: What is Equal Employment Opportunity(EEO)? What are its objectives? How can it contribute to an organization’s success.
Equal employment opportunity?is employment practice where employers do not engage in employment activities that are prohibited by law. All individuals, including those that fall under the protected classes, have an equal opportunity for employment and advancement within an organization. The employee must prove they were discriminated against when they were treated differently because of their status in one of those protected classes. It is illegal for employers to discriminate against an applicant or employee on the basis of race, age, color, sex, religion, or national origin.
Equal opportunity?is a stipulation that all people should be treated similarly, unhampered by artificial barriers or prejudices or preferences, except when particular distinctions can be explicitly justified.?The aim according to this often complex and contested concept?is that important jobs should go to those “most qualified”. It means that persons most likely to perform ably in a given task and not go to persons for arbitrary or irrelevant reasons. Chances for advancement should be open to everybody interested, such that they have “an equal chance to compete within the framework of goals and the structure of rules established.”?The idea is to remove arbitrariness from the selection process and base it on some “pre-agreed basis of?fairness, with the assessment process being related to the type of position,”?and emphasizing procedural and legal means.?Individuals should succeed or fail based on their own efforts and not extraneous circumstances such as having well-connected parents.?It is opposed to?nepotismand plays a role in whether a social structure is seen as legitimate.
Equal Employment Opportunity(EEO) is about making sure that workplace are free from all forms of unlawful discrimination and harassment, and providing programs to assist members of EEO groups to overcome past or present disadvantage. The means having workplace rules, policies, practices and behaviors that are fair and do not disadvantage people because they belong to particular groups.
With the rapid growth of the world population, the employment structure is getting younger and younger. Many companies emphasize the boundaries of age in the recruitment. It is unsurprised to find that the age limits appear in a variety of job fairs. It seems that all employers of the entire labor market coincidentally put the age requirements under 30 to 35 years old (Peetz, David, 2008). The exclusion of a large number of older job-seekers leads to a waste of resources and a heavy burden to the society. In addition, many firms even force the workers departure voluntarily or retire from the position when they reach a certain age. Making the working-age people to retirees is actually deprived of their equal employment right.
Because of the general “loving high” sake in the society, a large part of citizens" equal opportunity to employment is not guaranteed. Large amounts of companies make strict requirement on the height of job applicants in recruitment notice. More seriously, job seekers, without an ideal height, often do not have an interview chance (Sinclair, Michael?D, 2009). For example, it is reported on a newspaper that a man graduated from a well-known university was identified as “unqualified” in the teacher qualification due to the lack of 160 cm height. In another example, the people"s bank of China, the central bank of my country, posted recruitment advertising on the front page of newspaper with clear refusing for males under 1.68 meters and female under 1.55 meters when one of its local branch recruited employees.
Employment equality opportunity is the basic content for employment relation of citizens. First, Equality itself is extremely important to the nation, social and individual. Equality can evoke the generation of new ideas and the change old ideas so that gives confidence and courage to public.
In many countries, we see that inequality bring instability to the social order of the country. On contrast, countries whose equality has been well-maintained often present a well interpersonal relationship. Similarly, the right of equality in employment does not only affect people"s ideas, but also affect interpersonal relationships between people. Second, the main reason caused this unequal employment opportunity is the conflict between employers’ interests and workers’ rights (Suk, Julie C, 2007). Due to economic factors, most employers choose, promote, and dismiss employees based on the principles of the lowest cost and the greatest effectiveness. However, the essence of job determines in its equity attribute. From the 20 century, the right to work is not only just be seen as a right to freedom, but also be considered as a beneficial interest and a fundamental social right. Therefore, the government of the state is responsible for the maintenance of the national minimum living condition and these protections should be “valid”. This is to say that the state is obliged to take care of the realization of equal employment opportunity in the society.
The protection of equal employment opportunity is not complete in most countries and most areas. Firstly, from the view of legislation, there are obvious omissions in the labor law system and the supporting regulations of it. For example, in my home country, a majority of rural labors suffer serious employment discrimination and cannot use current existing regulations to protect their interests. In addition, the provision of Article 12 on Chinese Labor Law says: “To employment relation, the workers should not be discriminated against because of different ethnic, racial, gender and religious beliefs.” This provision excludes other types of employment discrimination outside the scope and thus opens the door to employment discrimination, such as age, height and background. Secondly, although the law of many countries provides regulation on equal employment opportunity, the action taken by relevant departments cannot guarantee for the realization of an equal employment environment effectively (Rubio, Philip?F, 2012). There are lots of gaps and obstacles in the application of the law and governments of most nations lack a good implementation to protect the right of equal employment.
Currently, many international treaties and regional treaties in the world write the right to equal employment into the specification (Outten, Wayne?N, 2006). For example, the provision of Article 23 on the “International Human Rights Law” states that everyone has the right to work, to choose employment freely, to enjoy justify and favorable work conditions and to be protected against unemployment. Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention is the most detailed convention on equal employment opportunity made by ILO (International Labor Organization). Moreover, many countries in the world made laws and regulations on the equality of employment opportunity. For example, since the 1960s, the United States has enacted a series of laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Rehabilitation Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act of laws to prohibit discrimination in employment and protect equal employment opportunity. The desire to provide an equal employment job market has become the world trend.
In conclusion, to achieve an equal employment environment, there are many problems that need to be taken into consideration, such as varied kinds of employment discrimination. However, since equal employment opportunity plays an increasingly important role in job market, this issue has drawn worldwide attention and is worthy further consideration.g

Fruit is cheapest in season.
Fruit quickly goes rotten in hot weather.
Eat more fruit—it will do you good.
The mango is a tropical fruit.
The potato is a vegetable, not a fruit.
I bought some fruit on my way home.
Some fruits don’t freeze well at all.
We import tropical fruit(s).
We import many different tropical fruits.
Fruit and vegetables are sold by weight.
Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The farmer drove to the city each week to sell his fruits and vegetables.
Her health improved when she began eating fruits and vegetables.
He runs a fruit and vegetable stall in the market.
3. 雖然在強調種類時fruit可用作可數名詞,但與表示種類的kind of, type of, sort of等搭配時,fruit通常是不可數的,因為其種類意味已經體現在kind, type, sort等詞上面。如:
I like all kinds of fruit, especially apples.
Apple, pears, and oranges are some common types of fruit.
The global economy means that all types of fruit and vegetables are available throughout the year.

Opportunity
Opportunity What factor decides everyone’s opportunity? Some people believe that opportunity is just a matter of coincidence; other people believe that opportunity is around us, it needs people to perceive. In my opinion, besides what mention above, opportunity also needs us to create. One factor that plays an important role in determining our opportunities is coincidence. For example, some people born in a rich family, they enjoy great chances to be successful, because the fame and the reputation from the family provide them chances. Comparing to those people who born in a poor family, they don’t have such chances, it is hard for them to seize the chances, they need to work for it. The other factor that plays an important role in determining our opportunities are our positive attitude. Opportunity often exists all around us, it is waiting for those people who are brave to grasp it. A person who is positive will perceive the chance, he will not be defeated by fail, still holding the hope that chances comes any minute, so they will grasp the chance as soon as it comes. In conclusion, everyone has the chance to be successful; it contains many factors, such as coincidence, attitude and others. In order to fulfill our lives, we must seize the chance to realize our dreams. Helicopter Parents vs. Free-range Kids According to a recent article on Newsweek concerning children’s’ education, there is an increasing number of parents worrying their kids to an extreme extent, depriving them of independence and freedom by keeping them around parents all the time. Some people applaud this phenomenon, suggesting that kids’ safety is the most important. Thus, they’d better not enter the hazardous society without supervision unless they become adults. From my point of view, some of their opinion is correct but keeping children away from independence is a completely erroneous decision. The reasons are as follows:有一些人十分支持這樣的觀點,并聲稱孩子的安全是最最重要的。 First and foremost, “locking kids” may hinder their healthy growth, both mentally and physically. The kids who are locked may have heavy reliance on their parents, as their comprehensive skills such as communication skills or cooperative spirit being prevented from developing. Secondly, what these parents fail to see is the fact that the crime rate and accidents aren’t on a rapid rise. It is the abuse of mass media that make crimes and violence more scary. The parents, who love their kids so much, are completely forced to live under the illusion that our society is full of riots or threats of accidents. Thus, kids can be allowed to have more freedom such as walking to school by himself, for instance. From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion that kids should be given more freedom by parents’ effort. At the same time, parents should take many factors into consideration such as the time restriction for children and the evaluation to kids’ maturity and capability. Only then can they enjoy a safe and meaningful childhood. The Mother’s Day The mother’s day is a day that we express our sincerely thanks to our mother. This year, the mother’s day is on May 11th. The mother’s day first started from ancient Greek, then the Americans decided that the second Sunday of May is the mother’s day. On this special day, the mothers will receive presents from their children. The gifts could be anything. It is a way that the children show their love and care to their mothers. As students, we don’t have too much money to buy expensive gifts to our mother, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t do anything to express our thanks to our mothers. We can do something too. I have a few suggestions. For example, we can make a breakfast for our mother, or make a card for her. We can also do some cleaning to reduce mother’s pressure. We can use our lucky money to buy a single carnation. What’s more, we can turn to fathers for help, I think our fathers will be willing to give us some help about what to do on the mother’s day. The chief thing to remember is that the mother’s day is aimed to spend more time with our mother, and appreciate what she has done for the whole family. I think every mother is great, and everybody should do something to let our mothers know that we love her. Happy mother’s day!

Opportunity
Opportunity
Some people regard opportunity as the most important part of their life. It’s the way to success. So when they see their friends succeed, they will complain that they are not lucky enough to have the opportunity. But other people think that opportunity is sheer luck, with their hard work, knowledge and skill, opportunity will be waiting for them everywhere.
Although the attitudes towards opportunity are different, opportunity is important indeed, and no one should neglect. It can make a person successful. We should grasp every valuable opportunity and make good use of it, otherwise nothing can be left with us but regret and disappointment.
But I think it is not opportunity itself that decides a person’s success or failure. It is fair to every person, I think. To grasp the opportunity, we need knowledge, skill and experience. In a word, opportunity is important but not decisive.

go-between → go-betweens 中間人
break-in → break-ins 闖入
forget-me-not → forget-me-nots 勿忘草
hand-me-down → hand-me-downs 舊衣
passer-by → passers-by 過路人
a woman cook → women cooks 女廚師
a man nurse → men nurses 男護士
如:Where are my pajamas?
My trousers are too long.
He was wearing a pair of gray trousers.
Lisa has three pairs of jeans.
如漢語中的“面包”,一般認為是可數的,可以說“一個面包”、“兩個面包”等,但英語中的bread卻通常是不可數的,不能相應地用a bread, two breads表示以上意思,而要說a loaf of bread, two loaves of bread。
There is snow on the ground.
There was a heavy snow last night.
