Chapter one
“What’s the difference between a rattlesnake lying dead in the middle of a highway and a lawyer lying dead in the middle of a highway?” He paused. “There are skid marks in front of the snake.”
His bar association audience responded with polite laughter and diplomatic smiles.
“Why did New Jersey get all the toxic waste dumps and California get all the lawyers?” He paused again. “Because New Jersey had first choice.”
Less laughter, fewer smiles, a scattering of nervous coughs: diplomacy was failing fast.
“What do lawyers and sperm have in common?” He did not pause this time. “Both have a one-in-a-million chance of turning out human.”
All efforts at diplomacy had ended. His audience had fallen deathly silent; a sea of stone faces stared back at him. The lawyers on the dais focused on their lunches, embarrassed by their guest speaker’s ill-advised attempt at humor. He looked around the crowded room, as if stunned. He turned his palms up.
“Why aren’t you laughing? Aren’t those jokes funny? The public sure thinks those jokes are funny, damn funny. I can’t go to a cocktail party or the country club without someone telling me a stupid lawyer joke. My friends, we are the butt of America’s favorite jokes!”
He adjusted the microphone so his deep sigh was audible, but he maintained steady eye contact with the audience.
“I don’t think those jokes are funny, either. I didn’t go to law school to be the butt of cruel jokes. I went to law school to be another Atticus Finch. To Kill a Mockingbird was my mother’s favorite book and my bed-time story. She’d read a chapter each night, and when we came to the end, she’d go back to the beginning and start over. ‘Scotty,’she’d say, ‘be like Atticus. Be a lawyer. Do good.’
“And that, my fellow members of the bar, is the fundamental question we must ask ourselves: Are we really doing good, or are we just doing really well? Are we noble guardians of the rule of law fighting for justice in America, or are we just greedy parasites using the law to suck every last dollar from society like leeches on a dying man? Are we making the world a better place, or are we just making ourselves filthy rich?”

實踐報告
這周是英語專業的翻譯實踐周，這次的專業實習讓我受益匪淺，收獲頗多。專業實習的主要目的是要培養我們理論聯系實際，綜合運用所學基礎知識、基本理論和技能，獨立分析、解決問題的能力。在大學的第三學年，實習是一個很重要的環節，對我們以后的工作實習也有一定的幫助。所以，我們要端正態度，認真對待這次的專業實習。
我們的主要任務是進行英譯漢和漢譯英的翻譯實踐，為此在實踐的過程中，我總結了四種必備的翻譯工具：一是靈格斯翻譯工具，里面可安裝各式的詞典；二是百度搜索工具；三是有道詞典；四是英漢詞典；五是漢英詞典。翻譯的過程如下：首先可以現在靈格斯里查詢不懂的單詞和詞組，尋找最符合原文的解釋。然后采取同時在百度和有道詞典搜索的做法，并對同種搜索工具搜索結果進行比較。他們有著各自的優缺點。所以我們最后用到的就是英漢和漢英辭典，可以對我們翻譯之中的詞匯，進行最后的確認，確定出最最準確的譯法。
在翻譯過程中也遇到到了一些困難，這說明在漫漫的英語學習過程中我還要繼續努力。學如逆水行舟，不進則退，只要每天我認真學習，那就是一種進步。人生總歸會有許多挫折，但我們若不跨過這道坎，就不會有進步，滯留不前。我們要用有限的生命創造無限的價值，勇敢面對每一個挑戰。
翻譯是運用一種語言把另一種語言所表達的思維內容準確而完整地表達出來的語言行為。當然紙上談兵是無稽之談，光有理論知識而不實踐操作也是沒有用的。有位翻譯家這么說過，“學翻譯猶如學游泳。只在岸邊看別人游，或只聽教練講解，是學不會的。”所以要想提高自己的翻譯能力，一定要通過實踐。實踐可以分為兩類，直接的實踐和間接的實踐。
所謂直接的實踐，就是自己親身參加的實踐，也就是自己動手翻譯。一回生，二回熟，日積月累，第一手經驗多了，做起來得心應手，翻譯能力有所提高。所謂“熟能生巧”，就是這個道理。但自己能譯的東西是有限的，從這種實踐中得出的經驗也是有限的。因此，還需要借助于間接的實踐。
所謂間接的實踐，就是研究別人的譯文。比如，一篇文章在手，準備翻譯，這時先找一些有關的資料或同類文章的譯文看一看，在詞語和風格方面定會有所借鑒。別人的譯文是別人直接實踐的產物，看了別人的譯文，就是從事間接實踐。從總結經驗的角度來看，直接實踐和間接實踐具有同等的價值。因此，有空的時候，找一些譯文來，尤其是好的譯文，加以研究，總結出一些規律性的東西，對于提高自己的翻譯能力是大有好處的。
經過這幾天的翻譯實踐，心里感觸良多，收獲也頗多，從中也學到了很多東西，總結出了幾點體會：
一、翻譯的工作性質需要我們仔細、認真并且耐心。翻譯是一項慢中出細活的工作，要坐得住，穩得住，要一絲不茍地對待，字字斟酌，句句思量，嚴格遵守“信、雅、達”的翻譯標準，力求把譯文翻譯得通順準確，忠實原文。
二、英語和其他學科知識的積累。毫無疑問，要想成為一個出色的翻譯工作者，就必須同時具有高水平的語言能力和某一領域的專業知識。這一次的翻譯實踐大大拓寬了我的視野，積累了不少專業的英語詞匯，也逐漸認清科技英語文章的翻譯特點。
三、計算機操作能力需要提高，尤其是中英文打字的水平。現在翻譯文章無不需要借助于電腦，翻譯的過程中直接考驗了一個人的打字水平，現在我的中文打字速度還不是很快，所以，我要多多加強我的打字能力。
四、為成為一個合格的翻譯者打下了基礎。在這次的翻譯過程中，我學到了很多的翻譯技巧，這對我來說是一個很大的收獲。我相信自己的能力，對自己的翻譯生涯充滿了熱切的期待。也許我不是天才，不能一下子就成為優秀的翻譯者，但我愿意先從一個合格的翻譯者做起，從合格到優秀，一直努力，一直在進步，這才是我一生所應該追求的夢想。

實踐報告
這周是英語專業的翻譯實踐周，這次的專業實習讓我受益匪淺，收獲頗多。專業實習的主要目的是要培養我們理論聯系實際，綜合運用所學基礎知識、基本理論和技能，獨立分析、解決問題的能力。在大學的第三學年，實習是一個很重要的環節，對我們以后的工作實習也有一定的幫助。所以，我們要端正態度，認真對待這次的專業實習。
體現市民生活質量狀況的指標---恩格爾系數，上海也從1995年的53.4%下降到了2003年的37.2%，雖然與恩格爾系數多在20%以下的發達國家相比仍有差距，但按照聯合國糧農組織的劃分，表明上海消費已開始進入富裕狀態（聯合國糧農組織曾依據恩格爾系數，將恩格爾系數在40%-50%定為小康水平的消費，20%-40%定為富裕狀態的消費）。我們的主要任務是進行英譯漢和漢譯英的翻譯實踐，為此在實踐的過程中，我總結了四種必備的翻譯工具：一是靈格斯翻譯工具，里面可安裝各式的詞典；二是百度搜索工具；三是有道詞典；四是英漢詞典；五是漢英詞典。翻譯的過程如下：首先可以現在靈格斯里查詢不懂的單詞和詞組，尋找最符合原文的解釋。然后采取同時在百度和有道詞典搜索的做法，并對同種搜索工具搜索結果進行比較。他們有著各自的優缺點。所以我們最后用到的就是英漢和漢英辭典，可以對我們翻譯之中的詞匯，進行最后的確認，確定出最最準確的譯法。
10元以下□ 10～50元□ 50～100元□ 100元以上□在翻譯過程中也遇到到了一些困難，這說明在漫漫的英語學習過程中我還要繼續努力。學如逆水行舟，不進則退，只要每天我認真學習，那就是一種進步。人生總歸會有許多挫折，但我們若不跨過這道坎，就不會有進步，滯留不前。我們要用有限的生命創造無限的價值，勇敢面對每一個挑戰。
翻譯是運用一種語言把另一種語言所表達的思維內容準確而完整地表達出來的語言行為。當然紙上談兵是無稽之談，光有理論知識而不實踐操作也是沒有用的。有位翻譯家這么說過，“學翻譯猶如學游泳。只在岸邊看別人游，或只聽教練講解，是學不會的。”所以要想提高自己的翻譯能力，一定要通過實踐。實踐可以分為兩類，直接的實踐和間接的實踐。

一、實習目的：
實習是大學教育最后一個極為重要的實踐性教學環節。通過實習，使我們在社會實踐中接觸與本專業相關的實際工作，增強感性認識，培養和鍛煉我們綜合運用所學的基礎理論、基本技能和專業知識，去獨立分析和解決實際問題的能力，把理論和實踐結合起來，提高實踐動手能力，為我們畢業后走上工作崗位打下一定的基礎;同時可以檢驗教學效果，為進一步提高教育教學質量，培養合格人才積累經驗，并為自己能順利與社會環境接軌做準備。
二、實習地點：
kodak和平數碼影像中心
由于這家影像中心新近了兩臺機器，一臺是NORITSU牌型號QSF-V30S的沖卷機，另一臺是型號QSS-3301S的沖紙機，而且這兩臺機器都是日本進口的，使用說明書只有日文和英文版的，所以我的工作很明顯，就是把英文版的說明書翻譯成中文。
翻譯工作遠比我想像的要難，因為本身我不是英語專業的，說明書是圖文并貌，里面有大量的專有名詞，我的電子詞典都不夠用了，每天在店里我都與英語詞典形影不離，很慶幸把它從學校帶回了家。
在閑暇時候我也不閑著，虛心請教店里的師傅，學習一些用photoshop修改圖片的知識，例如，如何改紅眼、如何給照片整體和局域加亮等方法。經過一段時間的學習，我也可以幫助店里修改數碼相片了，而且很有效率
其實人生充滿了機遇和挑戰。在影像中心實習期間我也遇到了很多困難，有時真的對瑣碎重復的工作感到厭倦，一翻英文詞典就感到頭疼。不過我通過一段時間的摸索，總結出了擺正心態的重要性，冷靜分析，從自身查找原因，采取有效措施克服工作中的毛病，時刻保持自信和樂觀的態度。漸漸地我開始熟悉我的工作，而且越干越有章法，翻譯的效率和準確性也有明顯提高。最后，我用了15天左右的時間完成了三本說明書近450多頁的翻譯工作，影像中心的老板對我的工作也是非常滿意。
三、實習收獲
1、通過在認識實習，讓我對影像的工作范圍和工作職責有了一個較深入的了解，學到了一些必備的辦公室事物處理和photoshop等網絡軟件的應用。
2、專業知識要不斷提高。這次實習讓我認識到我的專業知識有待提高，要增強理論與實際的結合。知識是學不完的，每天多會出現新的情況，為此我要時刻保持學習的心態，同時要把所學應用的實踐，這樣我才能進步。
3、工作要有耐心和細心。筆頭翻譯是一項是比較煩瑣的工作，面對那么多的枯燥無味的思慕時常會心生煩悶，厭倦，以致于錯漏百出，而愈錯愈煩，愈煩愈錯。對此要調整好心態，要做到耐心和細心，這樣差錯少了就會越做越起勁，并會覺得這項工作也會使人快樂。
4、自主學習
工作時不再象在學校里學習那樣，有老師，有作業，有考試，而是一切要自己主動去學去做。只要你想學習，學習的機會還是很多的，老員工們從不吝惜自己的經驗來指導你工作，讓你少走彎路;公司有各種各樣的培訓來提高自己，你所要作的只是甄別哪些是你需要了解的，哪些是你感興趣的。
5、積極進取的工作態度
在工作中，你不只為公司創造了效益，同時也提高了自己，象我這樣沒有工作經驗的新人，更需要通過多做事情來積累經驗。特別是現在實習工作并不象正式員工那樣有明確的工作范圍，如果工作態度不夠積極就可能沒有事情做，所以平時就更需要主動爭取多做事，這樣才能多積累多提高。
6、團隊精神
工作往往不是一個人的事情，是一個團隊在完成一個項目，在工作的過程中如何去保持和團隊中其他同事的交流和溝通也是相當重要的。要學會與別人溝通、培養交流的能力以及與人合作的能力。合理的分工可以使大家在工作中各盡所長，團結合作，配合默契，共赴成功。個人要想成功及獲得好的業績，必須牢記一個規則：我們永遠不能將個人利益凌駕于團隊利益之上，在團隊工作中，會出現在自己的協助下同時也從中受益的情況，反過來看，自己本身受益其中，這是保證自己成功的最重要的因素之一。
7、基本禮儀
步入社會就需要了解基本禮儀，而這往往是原來作為學生不大重視的，無論是著裝還是待人接物，都應該合乎禮儀，才不會影響工作的正常進行。這就需要平時多學習，比如注意其他人的做法或向專家請教。
8、為人處事
作為學生面對的無非是同學、老師、家長，而工作后就要面對更為復雜的關系。無論是和領導、同事還是客戶接觸，都要做到妥善處理，要多溝通，并要設身處地從對方角度換位思考，而不是只是考慮自己的事。
最后，我至少還有以下問題需要解決。
1、缺乏工作經驗
因為自己缺乏經驗，很多問題而不能分清主次，還有些培訓或是學習不能找到重點，隨著實習工作的進行，我想我會逐漸積累經驗的。
2、工作態度仍不夠積極
在工作中僅僅能夠完成布置的工作，在沒有工作任務時雖能主動要求布置工作，但若沒有工作做時可能就會松懈，不能做到主動學習，這主要還是因為懶惰在作怪，在今后我要努力克服惰性，沒有工作任務時主動要求布置工作，沒有布置工作時作到自主學習。
3、工作時仍需追求完美
在工作中，不允許絲毫的馬虎，嚴謹認真是時刻要牢記的，以前我完成的工作中或多或少的會存在些問題，提交給老師后，有老師為我指出才沒給影響中心導致損失，要是我的錯誤導致了中心的損失后果不堪設想。
4、學術上不夠鉆研
這是由工作性質決定的，也是我自己選擇的，因為在我看來，只有被市場認可的技術才有價值，同時我也認為自己更適合做與人溝通的工作。但我畢竟是旅游專業的學生，需要作一些技術的研究工作，這就需要我個人多向店里的師傅學習，同時，這也對我的工作有促進作用。
